An adaption by Science Fiction screenwriter Nigel Kneale of H.G. Wells' 1901 novel. After Man's "first landing" on the moon in 1964, a Union Jack flag is discovered. An old man (Edward Judd) recalls how he, his fiancee (Martha Hyer) and a professor (Lionel Jeffries) made a trip to the moon in 1899 and encountered a race of "Selenites" - the insectoid population. Special effects master Ray Harryhausen provided the brilliant stop-motion animation. Directed by Nathan Juran (THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD).
