(Vestron:  1987)

A low-budget ($6 million) film by a new studio (Vestron) became a boxoffice behemoth, grossing $214 million and providing star-making roles for Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Set in the Summer of 1963, a seventeen-year-old girl is vacationing with her affluent family at a resort in the Catskill Mountains, where she develops a crush on the resort's dance instructor. Director Emile Ardolino was adamant that they choose dancers who could also act. A thumping soundtrack of original hits of the period along with an Academy Award-winning Best Original Song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" elevated the film as crowd pleaser.

Starring:  Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey (Joel's daughter) Cynthia Rhodes, Jerry Orbach.
